How to Install DRL Boards on Your Mini Cooper F5X Chassis
Enhance your Mini Cooper F5X chassis, including models F54, F54 LCI, F55, and F56, with our DRL boards available in CSL-Yellow, Red, Blue, and a customizable RGB variant. Transform your vehicle's appearance with unique daytime running lights inspired by the M4 CSL and M5 CS. Follow this step-by-step guide to ensure a smooth and secure installation. Note that while the single-color boards are more plug-and-play, the RGB variant requires additional wiring for the Bluetooth module, including power, grounding, and connection to the DRL boards.
Note: Always consult your vehicle's manual or seek professional assistance if you are unsure about any step. Our DRL LED boards are designed to fit only original headlights and are not suitable for aftermarket headlights.
Installation Process
Before starting the installation, ensure the ignition is off and the battery is disconnected, to prevent electrical issues. Gather all necessary tools: a T20 Torx screwdriver, a shallow socket tool, a flathead screwdriver, a blade or scraper, and gloves for safety.
- Open the hood to access the headlight assembly.
- Locate the heatsink on the headlight which is secured with four T20 Torx screws.
- Use the shallow socket tool with the T20 bit to unscrew the four Torx screws.
- Carefully remove the heatsink and set it aside.
- Identify the DRL plug on the existing module.
- Press the clip to release and gently pull to disconnect the plug.
- Insert a slim flathead screwdriver at the bottom edge of the module.
- Gently twist to create leverage and pry the circuit boards away from the housing.
- Use a blade or scraper to remove any remaining thermal paste from the heatsink or module area.
- Peel off the backing from the thermal adhesive on the new DRL boards.
- Align the new module with the pegs and carefully press it into place, ensuring not to touch the LED chips.
- Reconnect the DRL plug to the new module ensuring it snaps securely into place.
- Place the heatsink back over the new DRL module.
- Refasten the four T20 Torx screws securely.
- Turn on the vehicle’s lights to check the functionality of the new DRLs.
- Let the lights run for 15 minutes to allow the thermal adhesive to set initially.
- Ensure all tools and removed parts are cleared from the workspace.
- Close the hood and conduct a final operational test to confirm everything is working as expected.
Post-Installation
It is advisable to allow the thermal adhesive to cure fully, which typically takes about 72 hours under normal usage conditions.
By following these detailed steps, you can ensure a smooth and secure installation of the new DRL modules on your Mini Cooper F5X chassis.
